Flapjack Press aims to "provide a voice and forum for stranded bards" whilst not discriminating between the written and the spoken word. It explores the synergy between both through its magazine The Ugly Tree and occasional single-poet collections.
It currently publishes two magazines - The Ugly Tree and Ballista - as well as three or four books a year.
Each magazine includes work from Northwest writers alongside national and international contributions, whilst single author publications focus solely on the best new writing from the Northwest.
The Ugly Tree (ed. Paul Neads, ISSN 1478 8349) features poetry, reviews and interviews, and the poetry is of no set theme or genre. It is published every February, June and October.
Ballista (ed.s Paul Neads & Andrew Myers, ISSN 1750-6646) is a short fiction magazine showcasing new speculative fiction, published every March & September.

THE UGLY TREE Submission Policy
The Ugly Tree is issued 3 times a year & welcomes unsolicited submissions and reviews. It does not discriminate between any forms of poetry and whilst it does have a penchant for the relationship of spoken & performance poetry to the page it is not necessarily its raison d’être. For submissions guidelines please see the website and to get a taster of past issues visit its samples page - or better still, buy a copy!
BALLISTA Submission Policy
Submissions are welcome. An open policy exists - the only criteria being that they must fall under the category of "speculative fiction". That is, your muse is free to roam, as long as it touches upon the paranormal, horror, Gothick, psychological, supernatural, occult or macabre - even SF, dark fantasy or just the downright bizarre will be considered.
See the website for full submission guidelines and information on how to subscribe.
